"K2" and "Spice" are street names for synthetic marijuana. These products have other trade names such as "Blaze," "Bliss," "Black Mamba," "Genie," or even names of the chemicals that are sprayed on a mixture of herbs or plants and they mimic the effects of THC. As of March 1, 2012 the DEA is recommending five of these synthetic cannabinoids (JWH-018, JWH-200, JWH-073, CP-47,497) be placed on the list as Schedule 1 drugs (drugs that have no medical purpose).

These chemicals have not been approved by the FDA for human consumption but manufacturers and retailers are exploiting loopholes in the law and selling them as incense or altering the chemical composition slightly and repackaging them for sale.

BATH SALTS are used as a recreational designer drug and contain a stimulant compound such as 3,4-methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV) or 4-methylmethcathinone (mephedrone). These products have names like "White Rush," "Cloud Nine," "Ivory Wave," "Ocean Snow," "White Lightning," "Red Dove," and "Sextasy." Although they are labeled "not intended for human consumption" they are getting into the hands of young people over the past decade who are ingesting them and having alarming reactions. Long term effects are unknown.
